Who is Matt Ruff?

I want to share a little about me, so you know where my experience and passion for music has come from!
I am a professional musician and actor. I started performing in theatre when I was 6 years old!

I loved it so much that I continued doing it throughout school, and I ended up going to University of Florida for my BFA in musical theatre.
After college, I moved to NYC to pursue my dreams of being a professional theatre performer. Theatres from all over the country come to NYC to cast their actors, so I traveled around a lot doing gigs. Meanwhile, I booked many shows where I got to play instruments too! I truly got to live my dream.
COVID made things complicated for my career. The theatre industry has never been the same. So I looked for a way to transform my dream into a new line of work, though I have not quit performing entirely.

I began teaching instruments at the School of Rock and Garden street performing arts school in Hoboken. Both are marvelous schools that gave me the opportunity to grow as a teacher. I also teach a few private clients. I found out that I have a gift for working with kids of all ages, as well as adults. Soon, I developed a passion, and I started looking at it as a career. This is what I am meant to do in this season of my life. I have now watched hundreds of kids grow and blossom in their love for music. I've seen a 5 year old boy learn how to play electric guitar better than a lot of adults I know. I've convinced teenagers to not give up on their instrument and find a new love for music.
